Self Driving Car Simulation

Self driving cars seem to be the next frontier in the car industry. Yet, there are several moral dilemmas when it comes to self driving cars. When an accident happens, who is responsible? An accident caused by a self-driving car means that the car made a very deliberate and conscious decision to do what it did. Does that make the person who coded the artificial intelligence responsible? At what point is the car it's own entity and not controlled necessarily by the coder?

I have been interested in this dilemma for a while now, also known as the trolley problem. When faced with a difficult situation where life of loss is certain, how does one make a decision on which direction to go? In this video that I made, I created a fake code that allows the viewer to have an understanding of what is happening. The viewer watches a code run for a self driving car. The car is constantly faced with situation where it has to chose what decision to make. As the video continues, the situations get more and more messy, until it ends with the car choosing to hit 2 pedestrians instead of a group of 3, ending with an emergency situation. The viewer can only helplessly watch as all of this transpires.
