Versatility is the word that best describes this project. As a young growing family, the couple wanted furnishings that would tolerate abuse from children and pets. Now, the family is reaching a new phase. Both with successful careers, upcoming graduation parties, and opportunities to entertain adult friends, they expressed a desire for a more appealing, sophistiated, elegant, and cohesive design scheme. The couple has a large group of friends, so I was challenged to fit as much seating as possible without the space looking cluttered, and to make the furnishings as versatile as possible. The custom sectional measures 138"x84" fitting perfectly into the slightly sunken living room. The burgandy colored leather is a refreshing change from the two sofas - one black the other brown that previously filled the space. The table in the foreground will be replaced. Three woven flip-top ottomans that provide extra seating, a restful spot for tired feet, and built-in trays for serving will be added to the central conversation grouping, replacing the wood coffee table. Two leather chairs that match the sofa can swivel to participate in conversation, or face the other way towards the tv. A rolling bar cart will be able to reach every guest. Read Less

DURING: Almost complete - lacking proper lighting, a side table, two leather pull up chairs, and woven flip-top ottomans, the room is already evolving into a warm, comfortable, contemporary space.
BEFORE: As a young growing family, the couple wanted furnishings that would tolerate abuse from children and pets. Now, the family is reaching a new phase. Both with successful careers, upcoming graduation parties, and opportunities to entertain adult friends, they expressed a desire for a more appealing, sophistiated, elegant, and cohesive design scheme.
DURING: The couple loves to entertain large groups, so I was challenged to fit as much seating as possible without looking cluttered. The custom sectional measures 138"x84" fitting perfectly into the slightly sunken living room. The burgandy colored leather is a refreshing change from the two sofas - one black the other brown that previously filled the space. The table in the foreground will be replaced. Flip-top ottomans that provide extra seating as well as for serving as well as two swivel chairs will be added to the central conversation grouping. A rolling bar cart will be able to reach every guest.
A beautiful piece in its day, the bulky wall unit had to go along with many of its contents. The couple culled their collections down to what was absolutely essential.
The couple wanted to keep exposed as much as the handpainted wall as possible.
AFTER: To limit clutter, and maintain a sleek, contemporary design, I designed a simple shelving unit to accommodate a flat screen tv, a few shelves for essentials, and a cabinet below to store the audio visual equiment, games, and other necessities. A deeply recessed kick plate camouflages all the wiring while allowing the storage cabinet to appear to float.
Three textured ottomans will serve a multitude of tasks - a restful place for feet, extra seating, and as a cocktail table for serving. The top flips to reveal a tufted fabric top that can withstand heavy duty wear and tear. They look great together as a single unit, or are light enough to be moved around the room as needed.
The style is the same, but the color will match the burgandy leather of the sofa. Two chairs will face the sofa, swivel towards the tv, or coast across the room to any convenient spot.
