Arlette was quite particular in wanting a rock or core symbology in her logo. I struggled to link these two symbols with the idea of pilates. Below are the early exploration ideas.
In the end we decided to go for a more abstract style. The symbol of the famous teaser pose.
Arlette chose the colour palette, much to my disappointment. This was the first project I have worked on where I seriously disliked the colour palette. It made the website designs really hard. Towards the end, however, it did grow on me slightly.
For the typography, I decided on quite a controversial choice and wasn't completely sold with my idea at the beginning. I wanted a font that spoke modern, solid, health, and strength all at the same time.
In the end after extensive searching, I went for Queental. Lato blended very well for the body content.
Throughout the entire project, Arlette was very particular in what she wanted, but it did often lead us around in circles. She wanted a bootcamp feel and was very clear she did not want the website to be too feminine.
I was conscious that a bootcamp style matched with pilates was not actually a good fit for her company. In the end, after lengthy discussions, we decided to go for a vibrant, chunky website that was both bold but subtle at the same time.
