Kids playing area (UAE)
The project was the detailed interior design for a play area for kids. With an age range going from 2 to 10 years old. The client asked for separated sections or one big space for all ages, depending on what our concept would be. We were provided the 2D plan and were asked to provide 3D renderings of the interior design.
The challenges were mostly:
Making the space work for sections without one being a bother to the other.
Integrating the restauration part of the whole establishment without it being separated from the rest of the work flow.
Very interactive themes for all ages from 2 to 10 years old.
Very, very low budget – so nothing too expensive. The client asked for a very middle class design.
Our goals were:
The very first goal is to separate the sections, in two or three. Keeping in mind that we were dealing with small children as well as prepubescents.
The restauration is an important part because it has to be done between the section, with different furniture in order to keep everybody's need in check, the space can be used as the same but it is vital that the timing of use should be different for the two sections.
Interactive theme meant: games for all ages, especially IQ games and maybe an interactive wall the kids could use to let lose to their creativity as they together.
Staying in the limit of the budget the client asked for.
As unique solutions we thought of:
First of all, two sections were created: the first one would be for ages 1-5 and the second one for ages 6-10. The first section was planned to be as close as possible from reception and entry to give the parents a sense of comfort about their kids and give them the feeling that their small children were in good hands – and the area was secured with a folded barricade.
Since we chose to do two sections, the restauration tables were in between the two sections so they could be used for both but at different times. Therefore, we could save space for more playing area and a bigger space for the bathrooms since those are very important.
The playing area for both sections were designed in three parts: One part for reading or seating and drawing, one part was about toys in all shapes and forms and lastly the interactive part of the section with a wall to play, put stickers on and big house they could use as – similar to the house kids make in trees, make indoors to keep them safe.
We did keep in mind the budget, the toys chosen weren't very expensive but still very interesting for kids. We chose soft colours for the first section and more vibrant ones for the second section, especially shades of green/ brown since the theme was house in the tree.
