Tokyo Photo Diary
January 2020
For the past few years, my family and I agreed to celebrate the first days of the year in a different place. They say home isn’t a place after all, and the feeling of immersing one’s self into unfamiliarity is shared by all of us.

It took very little preparation this year because we didn’t plan where to go. My brother just casually suggested somewhere cold because it will be contrary to Manila’s everyday weather. Voila, Japan it is.
Tokyo is a megacity, composed of several other cities. To say that it is overwhelmingly sensorial is such an understatement. Expensive, yes but you can only agree that you get what it’s worth. From the way each food is prepared to the way how trains are skillfully intertwined, you would wish to take home everything. I don’t even know how to describe how incredibly polite the people are despite the very fast-paced city they are living in.

Yes it’s that good. For several days I imagined an alternate life where I can speak Nihonggo just so I could live a realistic life there. I’ve watched too many online videos beforehand because I needed to set expectations and mostly because I scouted for photography spots. It was so much different IRL and I can only wish every person in the world can experience it too.
A perfect mix of the traditional and modern that is simply mesmerizing
It's almost always crowded everywhere but it's also strangely quiet
