Tranquility
Watercolor
14" x 20"

This piece was done in watercolor to match the calming setting of the Koi fish. The goal of this piece was to capture the feeling of forgetting your troubles as you focus only on the koi fish gently rippling its way through the pond.
Butterflies in My Stomach
Colored Pencil
9" x 11"

In this piece, the disorganized, collage-type style was intended to create a sense of disorientation/discomfort--similar to the feeling of butterflies in your stomach. Rather than use dark tones, I used brighter colors as you can also get butterflies in your stomach when you're excited.
Death: A Self Portrait
White Charcoal
16" x 23"

This piece is about the death of culture and tradition. Many of my elder relatives lived outside of the country, but much of their culture is lost each time it is passed down to the next generation. To represent that, I combined traditional Thai and Greek traditions with common American objects.
Dog Eat Dog
Illustrator and Photoshop
8" x 10"

This piece is about Tian Gou, a dog figure in Chinese culture, who was said to have eaten the moon and then beaten until he coughed it up--a way of explaining why the eclipse occurs.
Self-Portrait
Graphite
12" x 18"

This piece was created in order to study how the face changes from different perspectives. I also exaggerated the highlights and shadows in order to create a high contrast.

A Doll's House
Illustrator and Photoshop
8" x 10"

This piece was inspired by a quote from Henrik Ibsen's "A Doll's House."  The silhouette of the characters are formed by their words and ideas.
 Would You Like A Drink?
Graphite
18" x 24"

This is a visual representation of the proverb, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink." In this case, the word "horse" was extended to mean all life forms, and the word "water" was extended to refer to life sources.
F For Fought for It
Watercolor and Acrylic
15" x 20"

This is a futuristic representation of Kate Greenaway's visual alphabet. I reimagined the original line, "F for Fought for It", to be about a future where humans must "fight" to keep their jobs due to an abundance of robots.
Leave Them Wanting More
Charcoal
22" x 30"

This piece is about the fear of failure--specifically a situation where great expectations are placed on you, but you fear you have nothing to offer. I made it using a subtractive method: covering the piece entirely with charcoal and then removing darkness with an eraser.
Learn Thai
Illustrator and Photoshop
8" x 10"

In this piece, each animal contains the Thai writing for that specific animal. As a visual learner, I find that it's easier to learn new material by connecting the words to a visual.
