While professional horse racing in America offers several prominent races, the three most prestigious are the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes. Since 1875, only 13 horses have won all three races in a single year and earned distinction as a Triple Crown winner. Below are the three most recent horses to win the Triple Crown:

1. Justify - Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith and trainer Bob Baffert led Justify to win the Triple Crown in 2018. The chestnut colt won all six of its races that year and became only the second-ever undefeated winner of the Triple Crown.

2. American Pharoah - Owned by Zayat Stables, LLC, American Pharoah became the first horse in 37 years to win the Triple Crown when it won the Belmont Stakes in 2015. Thirteen horses in that time won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes, but failed to win the Belmont.

3. Affirmed - Affirmed shared a memorable rivalry with Alydar as the two horses were neck-and-neck in the three coveted races, but the former emerged victorious in all three to win the Triple Crown in 1978. Their rivalry is regarded as one of the greatest in racing history.
