175 years of P&O Ferries

WINNER OF CARDIFF DESIGN FESTIVAL 2011 - Advertisement Category
The Brief asked for a new advertising campaign for P&O ferries which would see them releasing 2 new sister ferries, whilst celebrating 175 years of the P&O brand. The brief asked for several outcomes, including a digital and print-based outcome, web banner, magazine layout and any other possible outcomes (viral.) For the poster, i was deeply inspired by Abram Games and swiss grid systems. The poster sees half a ship and half a wine glass fused together, to combine both messages needed to be portrayed in the poster. The circular design around it acts as a very abstract sea, which dives under the glass and then up and around it, eventually diving back down and filling up the wine glass (as a toast of celebration.) Tiny birds have been placed on the boat to emphasis scale and an angular line has been added to create the smoke of the ferry but can be seen as the radar navigation system. The circular lines can also be portrayed as the lines of a telescope or lines of around the world travel. I've chosen to use the P&O colours so existing customers can relate to it and a slight texture has been placed over the top to make the poster appear vintage.
