THE BIRTHDAY PRESENT THAT WASN'T

SIZE: 34" square

PIECES: 30 pieces & bevel clusters

SOME BACKGROUND INFO:
When a relative asks you to make them a window for their birthday and says just make anything you want, you know there's going to be a problem.....

The bevel clusters in the center diamond and corner pieces are pre-made, I had the long strip in the corner sections custom done also adding the notch where the shape touches it. Originally this window was just going to have the center design and the frame was going to be in a diamond shape but I liked the way the corner pieces complimented the center. For the glass that fills the areas around the bevels I tried different colors and types of glass including antique style glass but this blue glass worked the best. It is the same water glass used for the ocean of the Yellow Submarine window. It was easy to do, I only had to cut the 30 blue pieces of glass, all the bevel clusters come already to go. The light colored wood used in the frame brings it all together.

So when I gave the window to my relative the first thing said was, "I don't like it, it doesn't have any color in it." I laughed and asked them if they were serious. Yep, they didn't want it and asked if I could make them something else. I just laughed and said you're kidding. No, they expected me to make them another window.

Someday I'll find someone who wants it.
