The final video:
The Breakdown. My task was to add the audience to tribunes. Some people were shot on stage, but for the massive effect the customer needed a couple thousands people more.
For the long shots I had to use full-CG people. Cameras were tracked in Blender. The human models were created in Fuse and animated with Mixamo. Then they were tweaked in Blender and replicated with variations in Houdini (3,399 CG people in total). I used Octane Render for Houdini to render out the CG and After Effects for the compositing.
For the medium shots I used real people footages that were shot at the stage. All scenes were 2D-tracked and rotoscoped in After Effects (mostly by hand with auto-tracking as a helper where possible). Then people footages were replicated and placed in shots.
