The concept of this commemorative medal issues from the idea of a cleric’s birthday, perceived as a mere moment between birth and death. Birth is represented by the symbol of the star, death by the symbol of the cross. Massive silver rings are employed to express this idea. The obverse of the medal (birth) features 40 notches along the circumference, which create a star, and, in circumscription, the sunken text: XXXX ADVENTŮ JIŘÍHO LADISLAVA MAJKOVA (XXXX ADVENTS OF JIŘÍ LADISLAV MAJKOV). The reverse (death) is quite blank, there are only four screws creating the symbol of the Latin cross. The Host, symbolizing Christ’s body, is placed between the two rings. The medal is inserted in a glass case reminiscent of a monstrance. Designer / Otakar Dušek / 2003 Metal / Ag 0,925 Diameter of medal / 45 mm Weight of medal / 83 g Quality / Patined Limited mintage / 80 pcs. Read Less
