TẾT CỔ TRUYỀN
Vietnamese people celebrate the Lunar New Year annually, which is based on the Chinese Lunar Calendar. Tết is also an occasion for pilgrims and family reunions.
Bao Lì Xì (Red Envelope or Lucky Money) is a traditon of giving money to children during this holiday - with the hope of bringing luck and fortune for the upcoming year.
Red Envelope varies in design, which can be cute, lively, traditional, modern, simple, elegant... as long as the general theme of Tết is displayed.
With this project, ceramic tiles were used as the main inspiration. Back in the 80s and 90s, lots of houses and falicity in big cities in Vietnam use these tiles for decoration, most are still seen today as retro or vintage architectural elements.
The aim was to create a Red Envelope Collection that conveys the meaning of time through its nostalgic image. Pieces were done in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
The project files were purchased and featured in a 360 degree virtual art projection room for Vinhomes' Grand Park Spring Festival in 2021.
