SYNOPSIS:
‘PURUSH’ is the mirror of patriarchal Indian society and it reflects status of women in it. Each and every character in this play is an ideology. An ideology that says that women are meant to be used as objects. It talks about how the powerful men always want to oppress the women and shatter their spirit whereas the women themselves think that being a woman is their weakness and they are born to accept and adjust to the Supremacy of the men. The men think it’s a woman’s Karma, her destiny and if something bad is happening to her, she is the one responsible for that. And the women, on the other hand, believe in this ideology and somewhere support it.
And in such a regressive scenario we have Ambika the central character of the play who thinks otherwise and not only fights for herself but also stands up for other women who are subjected to injustice or oppression. The society stands against Ambika. They leave her, make her loose, even break her… but what they fail to do is- break her spirit!
