As reported in the BBC, Coldplay recently announced that it would take a hiatus from touring, even with the release of the new album Everyday Life, until concerts can be designed in a way that is “environmentally beneficial.”

The UK group’s last tour “A Head Full of Dreams” in 2016-17 spanned 122 dates around the globe. This involved the use of 32 trucks, nine bus drivers, and 109 crew members across five continents.

As frontman Chris Martin described it, his goal moving forward is to create a carbon neutral tour concept in which solar power plays an important role and no single-use plastic is available at the venues.

The concept is part of one that drives the album, which is that all people inhabit a single planet, which needs to be taken care of better. Inspiration for songs on Everyday Life came from sources as diverse as a composer of Nigerian hymns and an Afghan gardener.
