A Story From Nothing

I was inspired by the activity of ‘cleaning’. How cleaning unwanted items is also a way of clearing unwanted memories, erasing your mark. I reversed the thought and came up with ways of leaving a trace behind through the act of cleaning. Erasing your mark, but still leaving something so as to say “I was there”.

I experimented with the idea of leaving a mark. I added needles and metal rods to the bristles in a manual sweeper as a way of carving a trace on the ground.

I did a thorough cleaning of my room, picking up the forgotten items, in each section. I retraced my memories of them as much as I could. These are the stories that I found.

The device made was designed to leave various types of holes in the ground, as you move the device back and forth. The holes got deeper the longer you used it. I merged my concept of unwanted memories attached to objects and the idea of digging, and thought of creatiing a device to bury these particular objects

Valuable objects with invaluable memories are buried deep within the soil...out of sight.
As you push back and forth, digging deeper, you recall each story that this object has. It also gets buried deep within the soil...out of mind.
