School Board Safety Committee Aims to Keep Students Safe
A certified public accountant based in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania, Larry Wittig manages the accounting firm Wittig CPA’s. Since 1995, Larry Wittig has also served as the president of the Tamaqua Area School Board. Recently, he was named to the board’s new safety committee.
In summer 2019, the Tamaqua Area School Board created a safety committee that will offer suggestions for improving the safety of students and addressing potential security threats. In August 2019, the board released the names of the members of the safety committee, which is comprised of school board directors, first responders, parents, and faculty members. The goal of the committee is to create a new safety policy, which Wittig believes will take several months to develop.
In September, the committee held its first meeting, where the school board superintendent and president discussed steps that the district is taking to improve student safety. The superintendent announced that the district plans to meet with an architect to figure out ways to modify the building design in order to protect students in the event of a mass shooting.
