The Last Guardian is the second in the series Slaves of Zisaida by author J.S.F.M. This being the second entry, we wanted to maintain the same motif and feel of the first book, while still being easily recognizable as a different entry. Just like in The Lost Signal, the first entry, strong motifs are incorporated to the design, showing a strong relationship between the story and the design of the book cover.
For this cover, the client wanted an old photograph to be used, which has meaning within the story but this meant using a black and white picture which may hinder the aesthetic of the design. Instead of relying on a black and white picture, we took said picture and colored it while keeping the grain and texture that comes with these old photographs.
As part of the campaign for the first book, we released the cover art for the upcoming book to create awareness and garner interest in the series.
