AERIAL PHOTO SERIES ABOUT THE
STAMPAR VOLCANIC CRATER ROW IN ICELAND
Reykjanes Peninsula has always been one of my favourite regions in Iceland. As the first bit of the country that I see from the plane, I fill with excitement every time. In such a small area you can find basically everything Iceland can offer: vast lava fields, geothermal areas, rugged mountains and crystal clear lakes, hotpots, battered cliffs and strange lava formations - it even has small highlands. I gravitate to these kind of overlooked areas during my researches, and that's how I found these crater series named Stampar, which was formed in an eruption from a fissure in the Reykjanes Fires in 1210-1240 AD. The row of craters is around 4 km long, and the area of lava field they produced is appr. 4.6 km2. Next time, before you wash away your worries in the torquoise cauldron at Blue Lagoon, climb up to these magnificent little volcanoes.
