UCLA Centennial 100 Projection Show

UCLA formed a steering committee to develop an initiative to recognize a significant milestone: the celebration of UCLA’s 100th anniversary. The opening event will begin with the anniversary of UCLA’s charter in May 2019 and end on Commencement 2020. This introductory event needs to highlight UCLA’s accomplishments, impact, and challenges over UCLA’s 100 year history, as well as being future-forward by inspiring everyone with UCLA’s continued advancement in shaping communities and the world through research, teaching, and public service. The solution: symbolize this historic moment on a world stage, by using Royce Hall as the iconic landmark. To tell this momentous story, a Lighting the Way theme featuring choreographed light and sound show with the narrative voice of Alumnus Cari Champion, would be projected onto the building’s facade at night.
Ideas for the most part, are subjective. Some are good. Some are bad. Some resonate with clients. Some don’t. Some get revised. Some look very different once they go into production. Like all projects that have ever been undertaken, there will always be some ideas that will never make it past the drawing board. Below are some of the concepts that didn’t make it, but they can still inspire the imagination.
Cari Champion was in good spirits while attending the voice-over recording studio session with me and the Grizzlee crew.
