Responsive Design - Case Study (Web)

Responsive Web Design
Client: Canada Coffee Alicante (2017-2018)
THE CHALLENGE
Creating a web presence for a café & bakeshop.
DESIGN CHALLENGE
- timeless, clean, contemporary design
- responsive (mobile friendly)
- informative, easy to use
- bilingual
- easy to update
INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE
The product catalogue contains upwards of 100 items, therefore I had to subdivide them in relevant categories. I chose to populate these with a clean-cut image of each product, so that the visitor can browse the store in a visual way, and, when interested in a product, the image flips to reveal a brief description.
The main challenge was transforming
large amounts of information into accessible
bite-sized pieces, to enhance the user experience.
RESPONSIVE
Depending on the screen resolution of the device used, the menu will automatically restructure. For wide screen devices I limited the product listing to a maximum of 3 columns, to avoid clutter.
Navigation and product info (mobile devices)
Navigation and product info (devices with larger screen size)
CORE VALUES
I decided to showcase the business core values under the Visit Us section. The visitor can read why the business is both Good for You (healthier, home made, fair priced) and Good for the Environment (ecological disposables, organic product).
Featuring the Core Values.
EXTENSIVE READING
For those interested in further reading, I created a section showcasing details on The journey of Coffee, the benefits of Organic Tea, Allergens Info, etc.
Dedicated section for geeking around.
LESSONS LEARNED
Building an extensive website from scratch can be arduous and at times a tedious endeavour. The trick is to set achievable goals, stay on track, and use a handful of tools that actually support the objective.

Employ technology smartly to facilitate the value of the project.
Thank you for your interest!
