MOUNTAIN GORILLAS
For the first time in decades, censuses conducted by guards and scientists confirm that the population of mountain gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei) has exceeded a thousand copies: 1063 in December 2019! Good news for the planet.

Distributed by the mountain jungles of Uganda, Rwanda and Congo, the mountain gorilla has been a symbol of the conservation struggle since the times when, first the naturalist Georges Schaller and then Dian Fossey, devoted themselves to their study and protection.

Today, poaching and the reduction of its original habitat in favor of human crops are its two greatest threats. However, thanks to the observation tourism that attracts visitors from all over the world and that contributes numerous income, the local population can improve their living conditions somewhat and their protection can also be financed.
