Much smarter people have said a lot more than I ever could but...
Australia has been on fire for months at a scale that is hard to comprehend. Mega-fires, fire tornadoes, loss of life, smoke making the air in our cities un-breathable. The imagery is dystopian and our government is unable or unwilling to lead.
Fires have been a part of our lives here forever but in my 35yrs I can't remember anything as catastrophic and so far reaching. A country on fire.
Our fires are battles by a mostly volunteer service, heroes, who have been on the front lines for weeks and months, risking their lives in temperatures we've never seen before.
