In early 2016, we were approached by the Elmshorn Fighting Pirates of the German Football League with the task of helping them refresh their branding.
The Fighting Pirates leadership provided a sharp and clear direction: despite being a small organization, they wanted an NFL-caliber identity. We took inspiration from several modern NFL identities and attempted to create a logo that would fit right in that aesthetic mold. This process resulted in a bold and memorable identity for the German football club.
Once we finished developing the new Fighting Pirates look, we created a sister identity for the team's cheerleading program, the Elmshorn Maniacs. Their new logo features the Maniacs' signature eight-point star, which in turn is made up of several unique stars of all shapes and sizes.
The new twin identities took the field later that year and immediately became popular with fans, coaches, players, cheerleaders and parents alike and have aided the club in growing into the organization it is today.
