CONSTELLATIONS: FEEL THE SKY | Cassette Packaging

Original artwork and cassette tape packaging created for the first physical release from CONSTELLATIONS, a collaborative sound art curatorial project co-created by Jess Shane and Michelle Macklem. The cassette features audio by Jaye Kranz and Myra Al-Rahim. Cassette and packaging photographed by Matthew Kariatsumari.

From CONSTELLATIONS:

"In March 1992, news reporter Heather Evans was working on a story in Northern British Columbia in Canada. She was reporting on how a proposed aluminum smelter in the region could impact the communities and local river. As she was driving, Heather noticed a flock of birds on the icy river, and pulled over to hear if she could gather some ambient sound for her report. What followed was a cassette recording of those birds — trumpeter swans — which Heather gathered that winter of 1992.
Feel The Sky, is a duo of sound works composed by Jaye Kranz and Myra Al-Rahim. Both extend from the same starting point — this newly-uncovered 1992 field recording by Heather Evans. Take an interior road trip in “Are We There Yet?”, a journey across memories and over mountain peaks, then venture into “The Burdened Land”, a sprawling whorl that considers borders from the perspective of migratory bodies that cannot be contained within them. Both works take inspiration from field recordings by Heather Evans on the ancestral and traditional territories of the Haisla Nation.”
