BRUTALIST COAT HOOK
waterjet cut / concrete study
Part of a class about materials and manufacturing techniques, the task was to build a coat hook.

Build a coat hook - Brief:
choose one material and manufacturing technique
wall to hook end – 120 mm or more
fixed by two screws spaced by 80 mm
inspiration - translating architecture / moodboard

Socialist brutalism was the stylistic cornerstone for this project. It‘s remarkable sense of balance between curves, lines and sharp angles creates a certain aerial quality – and a stark contrast to the material and size. Beside the appearance, especially bridges offer clues in terms of structural stability
architecture as structural and aesthetic inspiration
planning / manufacturing - concept to concrete

Preparation required CAD-files and making a concrete board, since the desired thickness (24mm) wasn‘t available. While questionable in practicality and efficency, it was definitively one of the most valuable experiences at universtiy, working not only with materials unknown to us but also learning to communicate with manufacuters.
