The War of the Worlds
Book Concept Art
As part of a BYU-I Graphic Design class, this represents the end result of a project centered around book covers and designs for objects.

The book covers below are a compilation of concepts that were devised before the final was decided upon.  I had a lot of mixed feelings about how to have binoculars represent the theme of the book, but in the end, I believe that this effect was achieved.
Binoculars
Admittedly, Binoculars aren’t what I first thought of when it came to Alien invasions.
Yet, somehow, they work!  A fascinating object with the right angles can look almost alien.  At least, that’s what I told myself.

While the Martians in ‘The War of the Worlds’ emerged from cylindrical pods, it doesn’t necessarily mean they couldn’t have made a large part of the journey in orbiting vessels of an unknown design.  This is what I based my imaginings on.

The flames provide visual interest and symbolize the widespread destruction that these Martians brought with them.  The blue flames also provided an intriguing design element that make you question the binoculars for what they actually are; they take on a new potential meaning beyond the inanimate object they clearly were.

So, at long last, here lies my rendition of 'War of the Worlds'
