The Gutenberg Book Project

The Gutenberg Book Project
The assignment: Make a book about Gutenberg and the printing press.

The cover page and several inside pages were letterpressed. The Rubylith interior divider pages add some color and a bit of printing nostalgia. (And geekery!) Individual lead letterpress letters are fastened to the cover.

The text for the cover page was set and printed by hand with an antique letterpress.
The cover was created from sheet metal and held together with rivets and piano hinges. The metal type protruding from the front of the book were fastened to the back of the book with screws.
The Gutenberg Book was inspired by three generations of printing technology as demonstrated by the use of digitally printed pages, rubylith accent pages, and hand-set type.
