An accomplished researcher and educator, Dr. A. Morrie Craig served as the creator and director of the endophyte service laboratory and a professor of toxicology at Oregon State University. Awarded the Oregon Scientist of the Year by the Oregon Academy of Sciences, Dr. Morrie Craig has been a member of and speaker at Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society, since 1967.

Established in 1886, Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society is one of the oldest internationally recognized scientific organizations. Sigma Xi promotes excellence in scientific investigation and collaboration among scientists and engineers through programs such as the Science Cafés.

In partnership with the public radio station, WGBH, Sigma Xi launched the Science Cafés, an initiative that provides scientists and engineers the opportunity to discuss current research and their impact on people’s lives. It was created to encourage a relaxed conversation and exchange of ideas among scientists, engineers, and the general public. It is neither a lecture nor a conference. Science Cafés take place at cafés, bookstores, museums, theaters, libraries, and bars. The scientific topics are general but relevant and appeal to the interest of a broader audience.
