SXSW Street Figher Invitational (2015)

In 2015, While working at GoodGame.gg, I was responsible for creating motion graphics for the SXSW Street Fighter Invitational - A small Street Fighter IV Ultra tournament organized and hosted by GoodGame.gg, in association with Twitch.tv. The event was broadcast live from Austin, Texas, on Twitch.tv. A recording of Day 3 of the event can be viewed here.

This was the project that ultimately started my long-term relationship with Octane Render. I created this intro along with several more subtle looping background videos that were shown behind various types of content.
The centerpiece of this animation is an arcade cabinet which I modeled in Cinema 4D. The art for the arcade cabinet was designed by Alexandre Misson, a graphic designer with whom I’ve often worked with since the beginning of my motion graphics career. The video being played on the screen is the Street Fighter IV Ultra opening cinematic, and the “Scoreboard” Prize Pool animation was created by Sean Green, one of my video production cohorts at GoodGame.gg. Being an avid LOST fan, Sean baked in a number of references to the series into the scoreboard animation.

I rendered everything with Octane Render in Cinema 4D, as 32 bit PSD sequences for maximum control in post. I made small MP4 proxies and brought it all into Adobe Premiere Pro to do an assembly edit, which I then moved over to After Effects to tighten things up a bit, and do some additional glow/bloom effects as well as color. Just for fun, I had the light leaks and glow effects bleed out of the image into the letterbox areas, like the video was too bright to contain within the frame.
