Wondrous Tales is a Dungeons and Dragons kickstarter campaign that I have been asked to illustrate scenes from. Each of the nine drawings below corresponds to a different quest the players follow. Throughout my creative process, I worked with the kickstarter creator to come up with interesting ways to show action and depth in my drawings by sketching my ideas, creating thumbnails, and deciding what scene we liked best.
I did a lot of referencing for all of my drawings. At the beginning of this project I was not familiar with doing scenery illustrations, so I found myself looking up landscape quite often. One of the most difficult parts of designing these drawings was figuring out how to incorporate negative space with the borders. Although difficult, I feel it really makes these illustrations striking and multi-dimensional.
All sketches were done in pencil, and all final illustrations were outlined and shaded with Pigma Micron pens and Prismacolor markers.
