Typeface Poster

Originally this poster was going to focus on WA Dwiggins’ Metro typeface, and as is obvious from the final result I ended up cutting that entire iteration. The first major reason was the direction I went with the poster relied more on abstract shapes built from referencing Dwiggins’ creative process. The design was distracting and hard to understand. The second reason was more of a surprise, as I had a hard time getting access to the metro font for free, and after all the trouble I went through with the original poster, I ended up scrapping the whole idea.
Instead I went with Dwiggins Deco, a single use font for the cover of American Alphabets. The colors and placement of the type specimen are directly inspired by the book, however the angular nature of the background panels are more drawn from the typeface’s formal properties.
