About the project
This project was created as a part of 47 days of Devanagari type design challenge. The challenge aims to bring creative minds across the globe together and give them an opportunity to glorify the world’s 4th most popular script, Devanagari which is used for approximately 120 languages. It is a left to right ancient Brāhmī script based abugida, a writing system in which consonant - vowel sequences are written as a unit. Each unit is based on a consonant letter and vowel notation is secondary.
14 vowels + 33 consonants = 47 letters of Devanagri
The second edition started on Aug 15th ’19. For this edition, 47 Days Of Devanagari partnered with Adobe and 36 Days of Type.
Concept
दिशा बंदिश (Disha Bandish): The letterforms were explored on paper using an ice-cream stick and ink keeping the direction constraint prominent. Just like small turns in right direction takes you to the destination, even the not-so-significant strokes have a role to play in the letter composition and its legibility.
