Perrier - Product Photography & Ads

"Perrier -
Product Photography & Ad Design"
Purpose

This is my final project for the Product Photography class, which features three photos of the drink "Perrier" chosen by me for the purpose of advertising the product. After submitting the product photography for the class final, I turned the images into advertisements by adding text and using mock-ups to be submitted into the student division of the American Advertising Awards, a marketing competition hosted by the American Advertising Federation (AAF).

Target Audience

The Perrier brand is proud to be “Earth’s First Soft Drink” as its content is from pure springs in France and is the "champagne of mineral water." Their target audience is the "edgy, upscale, and mature crowd," as well as consumers who are gravitating away from carbonated soft/sugary drinks. I wanted my pictures to reflect the luxury of the drink by placing it on a darker background to make it stand out.

Problem Solving

My initial concern while doing this project was deciding which product shots were the best options to create a cohesive look with the Perrier brand. I had sketched out on paper several different options for angles and had a second opinion from my professor for my final 3 shots- one of the product alone, one of the product with other elements added, and one with a more creative shot by taking the photo from above. Another issue was that this bottle is glass, meaning it is highly reflective and will cause hot-spots from the flash on the bottle. The solution to this was purchasing a mattifying spray that will coat the bottle and reduce glare and reflections.
Drink Product Photography

The equipment used for this project is as follows: Canon Rebel t5i, 50mm 1.8 lens, flashpoint light strobes, light modifier (snoot), softboxes and flags. It took about an hour of prep time to cut the lime slices and using a matte spray to decrease the shine from the glass bottle that would cause harsh spots of light from the flash.

All of the three photos in the Perrier ad series were completed by compositing several images into a single photo. The entire editing process was completed in Adobe Photoshop and required compositing skills, lighting skills, and attention to detail.   I used Photoshop to align the files and created masks to show or hide certain highlights and shadows until I was finished with the final images.
Ad Design with Product Photography

I added text using information from the Perrier website about their brand. I used cohesive editing by increasing the vibrancy and exposure of the images to be seen more clearly outdoors. Below is a GIF of my editing process from compositing the separate images to the final ad.
Mock-ups for Outdoor Campaign

I used a free mock-up site to add the final ad designs and simulate how they would look as an outdoor campaign. The rich, green colors bring attention to the luxury of the sparkling water brand.
