In September 2019 I visited the United States for the first time in my life and I took an A4 sketchbook with me to document this rare experience in the form of reportage illustration.

The main focus of my project was to look into the cultural differences in comparism to Europe that I notice during my stay. In the end I was drawing almost everything, as even the smallest details were American. I also reflected on the population. I kept noticing that the US really are a country of immigrants from all over the world, and I coudn't help but had to dedicate several pages to drawings of pieces from collections of Native American art to give space also to the original people of this continent.

An important contribution of the process of documenting each of my days in Chicago by drawing has been also a formation of clearer and more detailed memories. The specific feeling I had in each situation is still present on the pages when I go through them, even after several months. This was the personal side of my project.

One more topic appearing on pages of the sketchbook is the work on the Pilseñita mural in the district of Pilsen which I helped realise in a small group of illustrators.
Introducing the sketchbook with a picture drawn by my friend Gabriela...
... and closing it with another one by my friend Martin.
