“What would life taste like without salt?”
Identity design for a Hungarian fine dining restaurant

_______

Run by an exceptional chef, Szilárd Tóth, Salt restaurant is a fine dining place defined by forgotten wild ingredients and peasant foods of the Hungarian countryside. Their kitchen is based on sustainable sources using edible plants and local ingredients from Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county, where the chef originates from. They work closely with botanists to discover the whole range of edible plants and using fermentation as their main preservation technique.

The restaurant is located in the city center of Budapest, approachable from Hotel Rum, a boutique hotel inside a beautiful Neo-Renaissance building in the 5th district. So you cannot enter the restaurant from the street, however the huge store windows indicate that something special happens behind the glass curtain.

The graphic identity reflects the gastronomy concept: we used natural motifs and hand-drawn gestures. The earthy feeling is evoked by plant, stone and wood illustrations and natural materials which carry the design elements. We used the letter S as a shorter sign for the logo surrounded by grains of salt as their motto says: “What would life taste like without salt?”
