My motherland has been divided in two
A poster for Cyprus
Cyprus has been divided in two since 1974, after Turkey invaded the country and took half of it, due to the rise of animosity between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities. A song titled 'My motherland has been divided in two', written by a Turkish Cypriot in collaboration with a Greek Cypriot, was the inspiration for the poster. Written in Greek, I literally split the word 'motherand' in two, and made it look like it was harshly taken apart, and left broken, as the island is. In the background you can see olive branches, which look burnt. Two olive branches still decorate the flag of Cyprus and represent the peace between the two communities. It is used in the poster as an ironic symbol. I went on to bitmap the poster's visuals, to  make it look old, as the Cyprus problem is, but still lives to this day, and is a serious issue that has become a part of our everyday lives, and sometimes forgotten.

The poster was designed for the Museum of Typography in Crete 5th International Poster Competition 'Typography - window to the world'.
I went on to print the poster on silver vinyl.
Process of creating the poster can be seen below.
