Unidentified Lighting Object
Plaster, styrofoam, electrical wing nuts, pastels, plastic bag, electrical wire; 12" X 12" X 3"
This piece was inspired by rough-ins of light fixtures. In order to get a better idea of what that looks like, the next image is of an actual rough-in.
My deconstruction assignment was that of an electrical outlet; so, in order to follow the same theme, I decided to create a different rendition with a twist of 1960's Sci-Fi UFO look in color and form. From styrofoam I found in the dump, I utilized it as a mold to pour plaster for the main junction box. Using the wire and a few pieces I had from the deconstruction project, I was then able to create something resembling a light fixture. The plastic bag (also from the dump) was supposed to simulate a vapor barrier that one has to cut through in order to place a junction box. The pastel -almost complementary- colors create a more fun and futuristic looking piece. From this project, I learned mostly about attachment points and how to best hide them.
