ARTMOSSPHERE BIENNALE 2018

Artmossphere is the only Russian biennale that introduces general public to the most prominent street artists from all over the world and boosts the development of the local street art scene.
This year Artmossphere has changed the name of the Street art biennale to Street wave art biennale in response to the opinion that street art belongs to the street and thus can not be properly transferred and presented in a gallery space. The street wave artists have made their way into the world of contemporary art from different subcultures, including graffiti and street art. As many of them have had an experience of illegal creative activities on the street, they have kept using their specific techniques and themes while working in the studio.
OFFLINE
“In my project I wanted to explore our “real life” analog world. In the age of ever growing digital interactions we still inhabit three dimensional space, we live in apartments or homes, commute via roads or walk paths and relax in parks or various public places. With a smartphone in our hand or pocket we still need to follow street signs, walk around obstacles and pay attention to the traffic.
In the last few years Russia has been preparing for World Cup, simultaneously Moscow was undergoing vast urban alterations. Many cities have been submerged in countless construction sites. Living in St. Petersburg, surrounded by lavish historic decor I am drown to the bright, bold, function driven aesthetics of construction sites. In a way areas that are under construction can be see as “offline” - not functioning, not accessible.
I chose to work with installation because I wanted to stress the vast difference between 2D digital world and 3D real one. My work invites to be viewed from many angles, explore its overlapping layers, look closely into textures and details.
Bold aesthetics of high-visibility elements combined with graffiti inspired elements, typography, street signs, construction details and human portrait in the center creates a vibrant, complex 3-dimensional collage.
Several other interpretations can be added and that is something that I value and encourage in visitors.
Early aesthetics sketches.
Concept visualisation.
Everything in my installation has been manually cut, sanded, painted, decorated and installed. With an exception of several found objects such as street signs.

Overall installation consisted of nearly 100 parts and countless painted details.
