Camé: Centre d'Art et des Medias

Centre d'Art et des Medias
CAMÉ is a platform for creation, experimentation and exposition dedicated to new artistic form and media. Its mission is to provide a space of work and contemplation for the artists in residence. During six months, the artists are invited to conceive and realize an artistic project that will then be presented to the public.

The artists can use their surroundings in any way they see fit via inspiration, installation, or other means. By this process the quarry and its surroundings become activated in a way that the area has not since the days of its excavation in the nineteenth century. The influx of visiters will, in turn, help revitalize the neighboring town of Tercé.
Artist studios are located underneath the roof of an abandoned saw mill. They are tied to existing concrete footings and reinforced in similar manner. The connecting walkways are floating, but tied down for stability.

The housing units are nestled into the landscape, staggered and overlapping one another, to create a sense of community and oneness with the earth. The connecting paths are cut into the rock to further enhance this aim.
