Kalaakshar is a heavy font where "the darkness of the letters overpowers the whiteness of the page".
Kalaakshar is a Devanagari typeface ‘inspired’ by blackletter (Rotunda) to add to the limited pool of available display calligraphic Devanagari typefaces, especially for use for ever-expanding digital platforms.
There are not many calligraphic Devanagari fonts out there, and very few use the Roman angle. There are several inspired by the Latin script though. It is essential at the same time extremely challenging to design visually harmonious characters from one script to another (with very few common elements). This project has partially stemmed from my appreciation and liking of the Blackletter script.
