When you first look at these they seem to be just ordinary bikes. They, in fact, are. However, for those who work everyday, bringing them here, so that people can ride just for a few minutes around the town, these bikes are their lives. Tourists from anywhere in the world come here and rent these for a few minutes, to an hour, just so they can ride around seeing merchants and clowns, and people blowing bubbles and playing kites. This area where you can wander around, is called Fatahillah square, located in front of Fatahillah museum in Jakarta's Old Town.

Captured in HDR (High Dynamic Range). They come in different colors, with matching hats too. Go on and pick one, and ride in style even just for a few minutes. Just a few of us know that our joy riding these in town is just nothing compared to the money that we give to the people who own these bikes. Those people do not find joy from riding the bikes and wandering around like we do. They find joy by going home with some pocket money and buying food, maybe for their children. We ride those bikes so their children can ride their bikes to school.

Sometimes in the middle of holiday season, thousands of people come to Fatahillah square and completely rent out all the bikes for the whole day. Some other days, Fatahillah square can be so silent and empty. The people working here, the merchants, the clowns, they rely pretty much mercy of this world just so they can go home and enjoy just a few hours with their families. So when you ride these bikes, make sure you are happy with the color you choose, make sure the ride is worth it because Fatahillah square can be so beautiful just few hours after the sun reaches the middle of the sky, when the cold wind flows through our bodies, and through them who wait under the heat just so you can ride these bikes around.

This version of HDR picture captured the strong feelings emitted by just looking at these resting bikes. Be easy on me as this is one of the first HDR photos I have ever taken. Don't forget to come here and rent one, and wander around looking at the sky and the beauty of the Fatahillah museum. Just don't come during holiday season, you will be surprised to see how people storm this place and so you are left with just a sea of people, and as you know, these bikes are not designed to walk on water.

I mentioned the people working as clowns too. They wait for people to come and take photos with them. Sometimes the day becomes so dry and ruthless, and they are just like us human beings, they can feel tired at times. So sometimes they spend few minutes to rest, sitting on that tiny bucket for collecting money, until somebody come and greet them. Imagine in the middle of the day, in heat, wearing thick costume walking around the field, just to entertain people who pass by.
