My rhythm structure included line, as seen with the framed lines; a dominant image intersected by columns of type; and large letterforms integrated with type. The above spread includes an excerpt from when Hoefler and Frere-Jones were interviewed on “Design Matters With Debbie Millman.” During the interview, they were asked how they came up with the name of the font Gotham. They explained that they wanted the name to include a G, an M and an O. And now you know how a gnome ended up on the page.
The book was French folded, which allowed for a flood of an image within the fold itself, giving the viewer a bonus surprise.
