What’s the difference between being a manager and being a leader? If you say they are one in the same, I beg to differ. Leaders inspire the people that work for them, while managers control or direct people. 

Big difference right? While we typically call people in supervisory roles, managers, if they are doing their job properly, they are leaders. It takes a lot of work to lead a team. And it takes even more work to lead them well. Here are my insights on what makes a great leader in a newsroom or in any business for that matter.

Are you a doer? You’d rather do something yourself so it’s done the way you like, versus telling or showing someone how to do it. If that describes how you operate, a course correction is necessary ASAP.
