Nexus 1201 is a co-working space in Midtown Atlanta executive offices and suites located at the iconic One Atlantic Center. This was the winning entry from the 99design contest for the identity design.
On the surface, N & X, 2 prominent letters from the word NEXUS weave seamlessly to create an abstract looking symbol. That is how quite a lot of famous logos derive theirs. But what the symbol stands for is where its critical faculties lay. Semiotics- the study of signs and symbols will tell you that signs have power. They communicate, educate and often affect psychologies on a subconscious/subliminal plain. Oftentimes you see logos with beautiful face value and aesthetics but zero meaning attached. The meaning only becomes greater with the time and energy poured into devising its concept with hidden often universal symbols rather than something which is all show but no go. And brands understand how semiotics makes any ordinary looking sign speak a meaningful story and the importance that the same holds.
The symbol for Nexus I've created here with N & X speaks volumes. It is a new take on the infinity symbol that is both infinite (denoting never ending possibilities) in a way and yet open ended in others. Its about not being restricted and stuck in a loop but also about venturing out and breaking the status quo. Breaking stereotypes. A 21st century philosophy! Being open minded about ideas, being curious is the cradle of invention. A philosophy that is the crux for a coworking space in all senses and manner.
The interconnected, intermingling lines also signify bonds and forging of connections. Denoting a place where ideas and people come together. A place for people to connect, to conceptualise to collaborate and to create. The logo symbol also depicts triangles which have ancient connotations in context of architecture and design. This is because they convey progression, direction and purpose. Triangles can be used to suggest familiar themes like pyramids, arrows and pennants while on the other hand they represent the religious trinity,self-discovery or revelation. All those virtues that a coworking space like Nexus1201 should epitomise.
