While the Cubs failed the make the playoffs for the first time in five seasons, it was another good year for first baseman Anthony Rizzo. The 30-year-old native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, won his third National League (NL) Gold Glove Award. Paul Goldschmidt and Christian Walker of the St. Louis Cardinals and Arizona Diamondbacks finished second and third, respectively. Rizzo was a co-winner of the NL Gold Glove Award in 2018 with Freddie Freeman of the Atlanta Braves, and was the sole winner of the award in 2016.

The first baseman saved three defensive runs this past season at first base, according to Baseball Reference. He made only five errors in 146 games, and had a fielding percentage of .996. He is the first Cubs first baseman to win three Gold Glove Awards since Mark Grace, who earned the honor four times during the 1990s.

Rizzo also enjoyed an impressive year at the plate. He recorded a career-best .293 batting average to go along with 27 home runs and 94 RBI.
