This project required me to make a paper doll as well as outfits to go on the doll. This involved building a doll and clothes in illustrator and conveying to the viewer how the doll and clothes are to be cut out.
My concept was to create a cartoon bobble-head like design for the paper doll. I created a normal body based on a human male. Then I created a head based on my own. I enlarged the head to give the design the bobble-head feel I wanted then moved on to the clothes. I wanted to make the outfits something I would wear in real life so I based them off of outfits I commonly wear. This usually involves solid colors and polo's for nice occasions, This is represented in the outfits I chose to build. Those outfits being a solid t-shirt and long sleeve t-shirt as well as a short sleeve polo.
My process for building a paper doll started with the doll itself. Initially creating the body then the head. To keep the design simple I chose to represent the face using glasses. This made since because the doll is loosing based on myself and I wear glasses. I then set to creating the outfits, First the different shirt types, followed by the pants, and ending with the shoes. Dotted lines were added to indicate where to cut out the doll and clothes. Finally I added text and a calm background color to bring the artwork together.
This project taught me the value of  simplicity. I started this project trying to make the doll lifelike, adding in far to many details. This proved to be a detriment to the design. Once going back to the drawing board and deciding on a far simpler and cartoon like style, I became much happier with the result.
