MESS

We were invited by Adobe to California for the 20th Anniversary of InDesign.
To celebrate, we lived-streamed two 2-hour InDesign sessions on Adobe Live, where we worked on the foundations of MESS, an art magazine. The two sessions were laid out between the planning of the magazine and the actual designing of covers and layouts for interior pages.

What is MESS
MESS is an art & design magazine founded by Bardo Industries to showcases inspirational and curated projects of artists and designers we love. The artist featured on Issue #1 will be the photographer Celeste Martearena.

Design Process

Masthead
We approached the design of the Masthead from two different angles:
Bardo in Spanish means MESS (among other possible things) so we worked in some hand-made logos and doodles that represented the spirit behind our brand.
For the second approach, we were inspired by the typographies developed for Adobe's Hidden Treasures of the Bauhaus Dessau (because at Bardo, we share many of the Bauhaus ideals). We then decided to try, among other options, the typeface designed by Joost Schmidt and re-created by Flavia Zimbardi.

Cover
While working on the designing of the magazine, we developed a series of covers to choose from.
These were the three finalists. The chosen one featured the "Joschmi" Masthead, that due to its stencil nature, we ended up using to mask the cover picture.
