Munch Overheard - Band Poster

MUNCH OVERHEARD - Band Poster Design Brief
The purpose of this brief is to design an A3 Poster for the band "Munch Overheard" for an upcoming tour. The client is an ambient acid jazz liquid funk band who will be touring with two other bands within the same genre of music.

The layout of the poster was an A3 portrait with a hero image and two supplementary images. This layout was specifically requested by the client and text seen on the poster was also stipulated by the client.

When researching the genre of music the band performs I came across many varying styles and colour palettes. The genre is made up of two music genres "acid jazz" and "liquid funk" which are both very different styles of music. This made researching challenging but I decided to break the genres in half and do up two separate designs.

The first poster is inspired by the liquid funk genre which is fast paced electro music. Having a dark poster with neon colours and effects seem to be quick common in that music scene. I used a dark background and blended it in with the hero image. All the images used (hero and supplementary) have neon lights and blue highlights in them which follows the trend within this genre. Each band has a different font for their names as their names are their branding like a logo. I wanted each font to be unique to the band while being edgy inline with the music genre.

For the second poster I was experimenting with the layout and images. I noticed I strayed a bit far from the brief in regards to the music genre I was designing for but it was good practise at layouts and if I ever work with a pop punk band on a poster I have some experience.

The third poster is inspired by the acid funk genre which is smooth jazz played over an electronic dance beat. Posters and album covers within this genre feature bright colours from the 70's era, geometric shapes and mosaic designs. I decided to use a rectangle motif to insert vibrant colours to the poster and used a yellow square to highlight the hero image. I chose fonts that may have been used back in the 60's and 70's which is when acid jazz was most popular. Again I made sure each band had a different font for their name. I played around with shadows on the titles to help them stand out against the blue background. I think I could change up the font and placement for the text at the bottom of the poster to help with the harmony of the piece but I also like that it adds the touch of modernity in it since it’s a sans serif font.

Im happy with the end result and my progression during this activity and I feel I aligned with the brief while adding my own flare.
