This project was an exploration of order versus chaos using clean design and chaotic skin. I wanted an emotional, almost visceral reaction upon approach of the final, completed piece. The feeling of containment and preciousness is meant to draw the viewer in while the sharp lines and organic, growth like elements should push them away.

The response and critique received on my final piece was that the clean, tidy attention to detail aided in the elevation of the preciousness of the overall feel. The small details such as the spine like nails along the outer skeletal piece and the black paint were elemental to the creation of a light and important inner piece. The decision to cut the smaller pod from triangular dowels gave an overall sharp look to the finished piece. Based on the reactions of my peers, my desire to create a work that felt delicate yet uncomfortable was successful.

For this prototype I explored the idea of something being contained. I used a small scale approach to visualize my final project and find the setbacks I would encounter in the build. The concept of Order:Chaos in this piece is the repetition of shape and movement vs the containment something and the en wrapping of that final product.

In the critique, the feedback I received was that choosing to keep my final piece small scale would help draw in the viewer and reward them with a feeling of preciousness or importance. It was also impressed on me to be cognizant of the color used when wrapping the final as it may convey an emotion I do not want. I will also be very deliberate with the technique and the material in which I wrap and complete the piece.
Sketches
Top Idea: I am most drawn to the eight sketch. The idea for this is that it will have three posts that exist in tandem with a two roughly circular boards that have rounded/triangular cutouts in them. These cutouts will be offset to each board and the posts will be mounted outside the circle on one end and inside the circle on the other. the entire piece will be wrapped in thread creating "flat" walls that are semi translucent.
The concept is that this will feel off balance and tenuous, the posts will feel sharp and dangerous and the viewer will question what is inside.

Prototyping will involve further sketching and pushing of the pieces as well as making a smaller scale model out of wood and other found material.
