Academy of Art University Spring 2013 | Color Fundamentals | Mandala Final: in blue analagous split compliment - vintage disney theme

 

 

Featured at Academy of Art's SPRING SHOW! :] I didn't even enter it, but my teacher put it up anyways.

 

In my initial sketches I knew I wanted to do a Disney themed mandala. I originally drew to do a lion king design based off of Simba's I want to be a Mighty King segment. My other concept was based off having each layer of the mandala represent a different park in Disney World. The central focal point would have been the castle(magic kingdom), followed by sorcerer mickey hats (Hollywood Studios), then the tree of life (animal kingdom), and then using the Epcot sphere as the background. After our class critique I decided to go with the vintage disney mandala, although my teacher was not in favor of having Oswald in the center. It represents the beginning creations of Walt, showcasing Oswald, Steamboat Willie, & Snow White. I'm hella happy with the results and I plan on doing the lion king mandala out of duct tape just for kicks.
